The Lovevery Commitment

is grounded in our

commitment to families.

Children are instinctively curious about the natural world. You may notice your baby startle when the wind blows across their face, or see them staring up at dark branches against a light sky. Toddlers love to watch insects crawling across the pavement or point at the moon and say its name.

So it’s hard not to worry: “will this always be here for them?”

The responsibility of taking care of the planet can feel overwhelming and hard, which is why we have dedicated significant time and resources to this problem.

The Lovevery Commitment is grounded in our commitment to families. Just like you, we want to preserve what we’ve been given and pass it down to our children. We take our responsibility as a company seriously, and we know this work will always be in front of us.

We know we have a long way to go. Ultimately, we need to be confident that we’ve done everything we can.

Our sustainability goals

Illustrated icon with hand pinching a ball

By 2023: Ensure everything we make has the longest life possible—so it can be passed on to another family or made complete again.

What that means

Can’t find that missing puzzle piece? No problem: we’re committed to building the best quality products that will last generations (and replacing those lost pieces in the process). We are also looking into a secondhand marketplace that best fits families’ needs.

How we’ll get there

Illustrated icon of leaves

By 2025: 90% of the materials used in our products and packaging are made from renewable, biobased, or recycled materials that are verified by third parties where possible.

What that means

When it comes to their impact on the environment, not all materials are created equal. In many of our products, we already use eco-conscious materials like FSC-Certified Wood, organic cotton, and biobased plastic. We anticipate that material innovation and new technology will help us do even better.

How we’ll get there

Illustrated icon of house with leaf

By 2030: Achieve net zero carbon in every possible part of our supply chain.

What that means

Net zero: Having a realistic and actionable plan to reduce emissions and only using carbon offset where emissions reduction technology is not available—while also supporting carbon removal.

This is a big one: for us, “net zero” is a real promise. We know that every product piece, shipment, and employee action results in a carbon emission; everything we do leaves a footprint on the planet. Eliminating the negative effects of our environmental impact is a serious undertaking, and we know we have our work cut out for us. We’ll work with our suppliers to use renewable energy, reduce our transportation emissions, and only rely on offsets when we’ve exhausted all other solutions.

How we’ll get there

Illustrated icon of hands high fiving

Ongoing: Inspire others to join us in asking questions, learning, and taking action.

What that means

We’re asking a lot of questions—and learning so much—as we make these commitments. “Living sustainably” can feel overwhelming, in the same way that understanding children’s brain development felt overwhelming at first. Yet we know that with the right research, experts, and positive approach, we can make incredible progress—and inspire our community and industry in the process.

BioLite Improved Stove Program in Uganda

Project investment from 2019-2020

Certification Type: Gold Standard

We purchased carbon offsets from 3Degrees, who invested in distributing BioLite HomeStove to Ugandan households to reduce toxic pollutant emissions by 90%. The BioLite project also decreases deforestation by reducing reliance on wood for fuel. More information about this project can be found here and here on the Impact Registry.

The Envira Amazonia Project - A Tropical Forest Conservation Project in Acre, Brazil

(In partnership with Flexport.org)

Project investment from 2020-2022

Certification Type: Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+)

Through Flexport’s carbon offsetting program we invested in preventing Amazonian deforestation in Brazil. The Envira Amazonia Project aims to protect up to 200,000 hectares of tropical rainforest. More information about this project can be found here.

Protecting High Quality Forest Projects: Acapa—Bajo Mira y Frontera

(In partnership with Shopify)

Project investment from 2021-2022

Certification Type: Verified Carbon Standard

Through our subscription to Shopify Planet, we support projects to offset emissions from our shipments to customers, like Pachama’s efforts to protect old-growth rainforest in Colombia and reduce illegal harvesting. More information about that project can be found on the Verra Registry.

Carbon Neutral Shipping

Through our subscription to Shopify Planet, we offset the carbon emissions that are produced by shipping products to our customers.  Shopify Planet funds nature-based carbon removal solutions, such as reforestation and soil carbon sequestration. Shopify Planet uses our order tracking data, along with industry data and peer-reviewed models, to estimate how much CO2 our shipments release into the environment. For more information on how Shopify calculates shipping emissions, please visit Shopify’s carbon neutral shipping page found here.
