The Math Skill Set is based on research showing that children learn math best when they understand both the “how” (procedural knowledge) and the “why” (conceptual understanding). It uses hands-on materials to help children see and explore math concepts, and follows the Concrete, Representational, Abstract (CRA) model, which is widely used by teachers and math experts.

In this approach, children engage with math in a concrete way using objects they can see and touch. They are introduced to representational learning through drawings or visual models, and work with abstract symbols like numbers and equations. This framework helps children build a deeper understanding and connect ideas across different ways of thinking.

Timing will vary by child, of course, but you should plan on at least 4-6 months per Part. That said, the games are designed to be fun far beyond this time period.

You’ll also find guidance on how to interact with the materials based on your child’s current skill level, with videos that show how to increase or decrease the level of challenge.

The Math Skill Set is designed as a three-part program that you can purchase individually, starting with the part that’s right for your child. It is not a subscription.

Part 1 is available now and ships right away. You can also choose a Part 1 and Part 2 bundle to secure Part 2 in advance, for $30 off. Part 2 will ship later in October 2026 when it becomes available on its own.

Part 3 is coming in 2027 and will build on earlier skills with more advanced problem solving and real-world math applications.

• Numeracy is a really important focus of early math instruction. So it sounds like your child already has a great start! 

• What makes Part 1 especially valuable is that it goes beyond getting the right answer and builds the deeper understanding that supports long-term math success. For example, children learn flexible addition strategies that make mental math much easier as numbers get greater. Instead of solving 18 + 9 by counting, they learn to break the 9 into 2 and 7, turning the problem into 20 + 7 — a much more efficient way to think about numbers mentally.
